If your Frigidaire oven just displays a dash
This is the most common error code you’ll likely see on your display and the simplest to fix! This code means that the cooktop has been locked. You may have done this intentionally, or it might have happened by accident. To unlock, try the following steps:
- Press and hold the OFF button for six seconds.
- Once the error clears, make sure you can open the oven door. You can now resume using your oven normally.
F1 – Shorted keypad
This means that the keypad has shorted or a button has become stuck. To fix:
- Try resetting your oven by flipping the circuit breaker off, waiting five minutes, then turning it back on.
- If this doesn’t work, check to see if any physical buttons (as opposed to the touch screen buttons) are stuck. If they are, clean the touchpad thoroughly and try to unstick the buttons by massaging them.
- If the error continues, the keypad may need to be replaced.
F10 – Thermal runaway
This error means that your oven is hotter than it safely should be. There are a few different potential causes for this error, so if you encounter this, try the following:
- Turn off your oven to prevent further overheating. Wait for it to cool down before attempting any fixes, as it will be too hot to touch.
- Use a multimeter to test the temperature sensor—this may be faulty and need to be replaced.
- If you are confident doing so, check to see if there is a stuck relay—this may be causing the heating element to stay on even when the oven has reached the correct temperature.
F12 – Micro identification
This error indicates a communication problem between the control board and the microprocessor. To fix:
- Try cutting power to your oven for five minutes to reset the circuits, then turn it back on.
- If this doesn’t work, the wiring may be damaged, or the control board may need to be replaced.
F13 – E prompt failure
The F13 error means that your control board cannot process the inputs from the keypad and is unable to run. To fix:
- As in the previous step, try resetting your oven by turning it off for five minutes and restoring power.
- Check for connection issues between the control board and keypad, such as loose or damaged wiring.
- If the issue persists, you may need to replace the control board.
F3 / F20 / F26 / – Communication error
This error code is similar to the one above but can indicate a communication problem between the control board and all other components of the Frigidaire oven. To fix:
- Try a hard reset for the previous steps.
- If you are confident doing so, inspect the wiring between the control board and other components and replace it if needed.
- If nothing else works, the control board might need replacing.
F30 – Open temperature sensor and F31 – Shorted temperature sensor
The temperature sensor detects the oven’s internal temperature and sends a signal to the control board to adjust the heating element. The temperature sensor has an open or disconnected circuit if you see the F30 error code on your Frigidaire oven. The F31 code means that the temperature sensor has shorted. To fix:
- For your safety, disconnect the oven from its power source.
- Locate the temperature sensor. In most Frigidaire models, it is on the right side of the oven at the back. Consult your manual for specifics on your model.
- Check to ensure that the sensor is properly connected. If not, ensure it is, then check to see if the error code has cleared.
- If the error code persists, use a multimeter to test the temperature sensor’s continuity. If it’s properly functioning, it should read about 1080 ohms when measured at room temperature.
- If the reading shows the sensor is not functioning, it will need to be replaced. Source a replacement sensor from an appliance parts retailer, ensuring it is compatible with your Frigidaire oven model.
- Remove and replace the faulty sensor with your new one, consulting your manual if needed.
- Once the new sensor is installed, put your oven back together and restore power. Then, check to see if the error code has been resolved.
F40 / F41 – Cooktop lock out
This code indicates that the cooktop lockout has been activated, which stops it from being used. To remove this code:
- Please refer to your manual for instructions on disabling this feature in your Frigidaire oven model. The process varies by model.
- If this doesn’t work, try the reset method and disconnect your oven from its power source for five minutes before reconnecting.
F90 / F91 / F92 / F93 / F94 – Door lock issue
This error code means that there is an issue with the door lock. It most frequently occurs during the self-cleaning cycle. To resolve this code:
- If the self-cleaning cycle is ongoing, cancel it and wait for the oven to reach room temperature. This will often clear the problem.
- Try resetting your oven by disconnecting it from the power.
- Check to see if anything obstructs the door latch, such as grease or food debris.
- If the problem persists, the door latch assembly may need to be replaced.
